Chloe zhao, the director of the film Eternals, revealed that the original ending of the film was very different from the one that reached theaters and will soon be coming to Disney Plus. According to Oscar winner, the outcome for the new Marvel heroes was a much sadder and cruder one than the one left in the final cut of the film. What was this last scene about?
If the UCM film was already released in the middle of controversy, its ending would have possibly caused more commotion due to how little anticlimactic it was originally.

In an interview with The playlist, Zhao commented that the planned first ending for Eternals was much more “bleak.”
The end that came to the cinema
In the original outcome of the Marvel film, half of the Eternals left alive leave the earth in their ship to search space for more beings like them to reveal the truth about who they are.
On the other side, the second group that decides to stay on Earth is visited by Arishem, the Celestial who created them, with the warning that they will be judged for their actions in preventing the birth of another creator.

A bittersweet alternate ending
In the original ending that Chloé Zhao had in the first place thinking, none of the above happened, instead they were given a flatter resolution.
“Bleak. I did not hate it because I am used to more melancholic films, but it did not do well with the test audiences, “said the director.
“It used to end up with everyone back on the ship and with their memories erased, just traveling to another planet,” added the Asian-born filmmaker.

As Zhao explains, this ending apparently didn’t appeal to preliminary audiences prior to its premiere and was eventually swapped for one with a better hitch for its possible sequel.
