D.he future Ampel coalition partners have defended their plans to introduce the first compulsory corona vaccination in Germany in the Bundestag. The so-called facility-related vaccination requirement is about a weighing of interests, said the SPD health politician Sabine Dittmar on Tuesday in Berlin. She pointed out that people in need of care in nursing homes, for example, could not choose who would treat them. A high vaccination rate in these facilities is essential.
In the first reading, the Bundestag debated the plans of the SPD, Greens and FDP. It is planned that employees of clinics, nursing homes, medical practices, emergency services or even birthing centers must submit a corona vaccination or recovery certificate or a medical certificate that they cannot be vaccinated from March 15. In addition, vaccinations should in future also be carried out by dentists or pharmacists. The countries should also be given the opportunity to take stricter corona measures such as restaurant closings in hotspots. The changes should be decided this week.
The health politicians of the Greens and the FDP, Maria Klein-Schmeink and Christine Aschenberg-Dugnus, argued with a view to the facility-related vaccination requirement with the protection of the particularly vulnerable people who are treated and cared for in clinics or care facilities. The current corona situation is “very serious”, which forces action, said Aschenberg-Dugnus.
Sharp criticism came from the opposition parties Union and AfD. The CSU health politician Stephan Stracke said that the traffic light approach was not an efficient pandemic fight. The measures would come too late. “You are trying to close gaps that you open yourself.” AfD parliamentary group leader Alice Weidel accused the traffic light parties of electoral fraud. “The vaccination requirement for nurses (…) is a slap in the face of these people”. The law is an “unheard of border crossing”.
