Netflix premieres in some cinemas a fast-paced action comedy with The Rock, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, three common faces of the blockbuster, which will arrive on the platform this November 12
Winning horse, the one that Netflix rides launching a film of intrigue, adventure, action and humor starring three heavyweights of current commercial cinema: Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. An undeniable trio, whose chemistry works like a charm in ‘Red Alert’, the latest production of the popular platform that visits some conventional cinemas before seeing the light in streaming on November 12. As is usual in this type of proposal, the protagonists move around the world, moving from one town to another with a blink of an eye, including the city of Valencia, where, apparently, luxury is at its best. This is the most expensive movie ever produced by Netflix, with an estimated budget of $ 200 million.
The rhythm is so effective in this sense in this copious production that it can be overwhelming for the unaccustomed viewer. The locations follow one another frantically, as do the scenes of pirouettes, chases and melee fights. There is no respite in the plot, providing an overdose of evasion that softens the conscious lack of originality in what is exposed. The theft of precious treasures is the center of attention of a story that carries all its weight in the main cast, solvent when it moves in the field of comedy or distributing tow in a mountebank plan. The rivalry between white-collar thieves is the basis for a story in which an FBI agent as sharp as he is troubled crosses paths.
Designed for all audiences, ‘Red Alert’ does not invent entertainment cinema, but it takes it seriously, with professionalism and self-confidence, ranking above the average in a genre, action comedy, trampled on by the majors. Johnson has already shown his endearing comic vision throughout his filmography – it is always a pleasure to see him on the big screen when he shows his granite smile – with the recent ‘Jungle Cruise’ as an example of his worth. Pairing him with Reynolds, another versatile animal in front of the camera – the king of the show in ‘Free Guy’ and ‘Deadpool’ – is a safe bet, while Gadot crowns the triangle with charisma and intelligence, overshadowing his companions thanks to a role that suits him like a glove.

Rawson Marshall Thurber signs the script and the direction of a cocktail of references where his own career fits, with titles such as ‘A spy and a half’, ‘The skyscraper’ or ‘We are the Millers’. The blockbuster mixer is evident, a trend in the bulk of current mainstream cinema that, as it comes, is going. There is so much movement on screen, the roller coaster of situations and entanglements is such, with a free bar of plot twists, that the show is as enjoyable as it is forgettable as the end credits pass before our eyes. The possibility of a sequel is more than open, of course.
