Republican Congressman Kenneth Buck (Colorado) on Thursday, October 21, during a hearing before the Judiciary Committee of the US House of Representatives, asked the United States Secretary of Justice and Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special attorney to investigate the situation with the prices of paintings son of the country’s President Joe Biden Hunter. The video of the committee meeting is posted on the website C-Span…
Buck showed the assembled congressmen images of paintings by Claude Monet and Edgar Degas, the cost of which is estimated at $ 700 thousand and $ 500 thousand, respectively, and then presented the audience with a picture of Hunter Biden. At that moment laughter was heard in the hall. The Republican explained that the painting of the son of the head of state is also sold for $ 500 thousand.
“You might think that Hunter Biden <...> has, for example, artistic training experience. But you will be wrong. You can also assume that he studied with world famous masters, but again you are wrong. Or, perhaps, he has been selling his works for many years, but, unfortunately, you will be wrong again, ”the legislator said.
He clarified that even in 2019, no art gallery agreed to exhibit the work of Hunter Biden, but the next year after his father won the presidential election, everything changed.
“And now the painting by Hunter Biden is selling for a price that exceeds the average home price in America,” Buck said.
According to the Republican, the gallery, which exhibited the paintings of the American leader’s son, received significant sums under government programs to support business in the context of the pandemic.
“Attorney General, who buys Hunter Biden’s paintings? Who Benefits? How are they benefiting from the Biden administration? The American people want to know, ”the congressman addressed Garland and added that he sent him a letter on Thursday. Buck also asked if the minister would appoint a special attorney to investigate Hunter Biden.
Garland was unable to give a clear answer, citing the fact that he could not discuss any investigations against any of the US citizens and said that he did not know about the letter.
In July, before the sale of the paintings, some American lawyers suggested that the paintings of Biden’s son could be bought by foreign governments through dummies or lobbyists in order to gain the White House’s favor. However, the press secretary of the US President Jen Psaki assured that information about bidders and buyers will be hidden from Hunter Biden and the US administration, thus, according to the White House, the ethical issue will be resolved. She also added that the gallery will decide on sales and prices.
