The death of Dean Berta Vinales during the Supersport 300 race last September 25th in Jerez had a huge impact on his cousin. At first, Maverick Viñales he had chosen to travel to Austin, home of the last round of MotoGP. However, once he arrived in Houston, he found himself unable to cope with what lay ahead.
After talking to his team, Aprilia gave him permission to go home and skip the Grand Prix of the Americas, in which he would have to continue his adaptation phase to the RS-GP.
The Texas race is now behind us and Vinales, like the rest of the paddock, is already in Misano, where the third to last stage of the 2021 season will be staged.
It is the most familiar track for # 12 since he joined the Noale brand, with whom he has run two races so far: Aragon and the first which is held in Romagna. Furthermore, Maverick had already had the opportunity to drive the Venetian four-cylinder at the Marco Simoncelli World Circuit in a test that had represented his first contact.
Regarding his conflicting emotions, Vinales was very explicit: “I feel strange. On the one hand I am the happiest man in the world, with Nina (the daughter) and Raquel (the wife), but at the same time it is the most sad of my life. That’s why I tried to be with my family, which is my comfort zone, “said the rider from Roses, who is asking for time to adjust to a bike that has nothing to do with four cylinders in line with which he has raced so far (Suzuki and Yamaha).
“After a few days I felt part of the team and this is a great boost when I’m on the track. The best way to reward them is with results. These will come, but it takes time. I come from a bike that rides in a completely different way. so I need to reprogram myself “, added Vinales, who finished 13th at Misano last September 19th, 21 seconds behind the winner Francesco Bagnaia.
