The storm ‘Herminia’ will travel across the Peninsula this Monday and will reach the Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands at the end of the day when the most adverse phenomena of this storm will occur, which will cause warnings to be activated in 16 autonomous communities.
The most significant thing tomorrow will be the entry of a colder polar maritime air mass during the second half of the day, which will lower the snow level to around 800-1,000 m in the northwest quadrant and to 1,200-1,400 m in the Pyrenees. , Iberian system and Central system, with significant accumulations being possible, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
‘Herminia’ will warn 16 autonomous communities for wind, waves, rain and snow, with Galicia being the community that will have the most active warnings, four in total: one red for waves, orange for rain and yellow for snow and wind.
Cloudy or overcast skies will predominate and there will be practically widespread rainfall, which is unlikely to reach the extreme southeast of the peninsula, where cloudy intervals will predominate. More intense storms are expected in Galicia, west of the Northern Plateau and the Central System, other mountain environments and in the Strait area, and may be locally strong or persistent and accompanied by occasional storms.
As for temperatures, they will tend to increase in most of the country, moderately in the eastern half of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with locally notable rises in the Ebro and Levante, and generally slightly in the rest. Decreases are only expected in Galicia and the western Cantabrian Sea. Weak frosts will continue in the mountain systems of the northern half, moderate in the Pyrenees.
The winds will be moderate from the west and southwest in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. It is expected that they will become strong with very strong gusts in most of the territory, although they will be less likely in the extreme southwest of the peninsula and the northeastern third, with the exception of the Pyrenees where intense gusts are expected. Locally hurricane-force spells are possible in parts of the northern mountains and on the coasts of northern Galicia. In the Canary Islands, moderate trade winds.
