Until not long ago, it was difficult to find an electric vehicle on the market that could truly serve as a unique family car. Sometimes the problem was above all real autonomy on the road, which was usually insufficient to make long trips without the experience being too uncertain due to the need to plan in detail which charging points and when they would need to be used to complete the journey. .
It has also happened that the electric vehicles that brands have developed were often very large, expensive models and, therefore, unaffordable for a significant fraction of the population. In other rare cases, the vehicles marketed were too small to cover family needs and were more suitable for everyday use in the city, but they only served as second car.
Fortunately, a new batch of electric cars—among which the Kia EV3 stands out—has managed to harmonize all these factors so that they serve as unique household cars. Without a doubt, one of the most important factors is the price, because electric mobility can hardly become popular if people are unable to pay for it.
Kia’s new SUV has been put on sale in two basic finishes, air and Earthwhich cost respectively 29,995 and 31,500 euros. With the incentives of the Moves III Plan, of a maximum of 7,000 euros – 4,500 if an old vehicle is not scrapped – the EV3 can cost 23,600 euros in its simplest configuration.
There is a variant with great autonomy that is offered in the same two finishes, from 34,780 and 36,280 euros, and in the more equipped and sporty GT-Line, which amounts to 41,780 euros; Prices, all of which are subject to reduction, benefiting from Moves in the same way.
The EV3 also serves as a family car in terms of dimensions and capabilities. Located in the lower part of the C segment by size, it measures 4.3 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.68 m, equivalent to that of a much larger model, the Kia. Sportage. This gives rise to a very spacious cabin in the rear seats, both in height and legroom.
The trunk is capable of transporting all the luggage of four or five passengers thanks to its 460 liters – 1,250 if we fold the rear seats – which is a lot for a car of such a contained size. Added to this are another 25 liters under the front hood, ideal for keeping charging cables securely fastened.
The autonomy between recharges should not be a problem for EV3 users either. Its standard version incorporates a 58.3 kWh battery that provides 436 kilometers of range in the WLTP cycle; the so-called Long Range It uses a higher capacity, 81.4 kWh, which exceeds 600 on a single charge, a figure that shoots up to 773 km in exclusively urban driving.
Technological deployment
The smallest battery can be recharged at a maximum of 102 kW and the largest capacity at 128 kW, taking both from 10% to 80% in around half an hour. In alternating current, both support up to 11 kW, which may be 22 kW – as an option – from 2026.
The car has a 204-horsepower electric motor and front-wheel drive in all its configurations, waiting for a four-wheel drive version to arrive in the near future, as well as a sportier variant that will sport the initials GT.
As heir to the sophisticated EV9, the EV3 has a technological deployment that includes bidirectional charging, digital key, seats relaxationintelligent speed control or the route planner, essential in any electric model. With this, whoever is behind the wheel knows at all times the maximum and minimum kilometers that can be traveled depending on the driving style, as well as an estimate of the autonomy based on the efficiency achieved on the previous trip.
Among the technological firsts of the car we also find the system Kia In-Car Payment, that makes it easy to make payments from the car, and on-demand functions through Kia Connect Store. The capacity of streaming video and artificial intelligence assistant with ChatGPT will be offered via update of software during 2025.
The interior of the EV3 is dominated by a panoramic panel consisting of three screens. Two of them, 12.3 inches each, are touchscreen, and the third, 5.3″, is dedicated to air conditioning. The most complete finish available (GT-Line) and equipped with a package called Luxury adds a head-up display 12.3” placed on the windshield, right before the driver’s eyes.
Another of the distinctive elements of the Korean model is a practical tray that folds out from the front armrest and where you can place your computer or, if necessary, eat something while stopping along the way.
Built on the so-called Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and operating with a 400-volt electrical architecture, the EV3 can finally boast of having an improved energy regeneration system compared to that of other electric vehicles on the market. brand and that adds the i-Pedal function to the four preset retention levels.
This single-pedal function, capable of bringing the vehicle to a complete stop, can be used in any of the regenerative braking modes, including reverse, and the technology used by Kia also maintains the previously selected level when the car stops running.
