AstroBot has won the award for best video game of the year at The Game Awards 2024, the gala considered “the Oscars of video games.” The acclaimed platform game developed by the Japanese studio Team Asobi has won a total of four statuettes at the ceremony held tonight at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles (California).
In addition to taking the precious GOTY (Game of the Year), has also won the awards for best action and adventure game, best direction (Nicolas Doucet) and best family game.
The award for the best game of the year has been especially close in this edition due to the variety of major titles competing in 2024 and the fact that there was no clear favorite. In addition to AstroBot they also chose Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Metaphor: Rephantazio.
The director of Baldur’s Gate 3, last year’s winning game, has been in charge of announcing the name of the winner. Four members of Team Asobi led by its director Nicolas Doucet took the stage to collect the award. Doucet has dedicated a few words to Nintendo for being the company that popularized platform games with its iconic Super Mario Bros.
