two women, mother and daughter aged 82 and 50died this Sunday as a result of a fire in an apartment in a block of flats on the central Bernabé Soriano street in Jaén, the Emergency 112 service has informed EFE.
In addition, the health services have transferred to the hospital five more people, two men aged 88 and 41, a woman aged 39 and two minors aged eight and nine.
The fire started shortly before 6:30 p.m. at number 27 Bernabé Soriano Street, a six-story, 39-story block where many older people live. Firefighters, medical services and agents of the National and Local Police have traveled to that place, who have cordoned off the area.
The fire has caused a lot of smoke that has spread up the stairs of the block and several people have needed medical assistance. Calls to 112 indicated that there were trapped people who could not leave their homes.
To evacuate the residents of the upper homes, a crane has been installed in Plaza Deán Mazas, at the back of this block located in the center of Jaén.
