Santander will invite during the Constitution long weekend –December 6, 7 and 8– children to ‘travel’ and learn about the main Christmas traditions of a total of 9 countries in the European Union. This has been made known by the Councilor for Social Dynamization, Fran Ariaswho has detailed in a press release that, under the title ‘The trip to European Christmas’, free children’s workshops have been organized that they will be held during those three days and that on each day there will be three workshops, with locations close to each other, so that they can be visited between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
As explained, Each workshop will be a craft that will represent the various Christmas traditions that exist in each country. In addition, all participating children will be given a “passport” that will help recreate the imaginary trip through European Christmas. The monitors will seal the document in each workshop held and so the children will be able to see the evolution of their creative journey.
Arias has pointed out that between The Christmas traditions that will be carried out are some that are already part of “our Christmas, although their origin comes from other countries”as is the case of the nativity scenesthat They are an Italian tradition with more than 800 years of historywhose promoter was Saint Francis of Assisi. For this reason, the European workshop that will represent Italy is related to nativity scenes.
Besides, Another element that is “very familiar”, and whose origin is Finnish, is the figure of Santa Clauswho will also be present in the activities. In this sense, the councilor explained that There are lesser-known European traditions that will be part of this “journey”, such as the German ‘schwibbogen’ that are a kind of candlesticks crowned by a large arch that symbolizes the exit of the mine towards heavenwhich is what the German miners most wanted to see. And on the part of Greece will be presentKaraváki’, which being a maritime town and like parents spent a lot of time at seatheir relatives built small models of ships and decorated them at Christmas to remember them. The workshop lineup will be completed by Swedish Santa Lucia wreaths, French ornaments, Danish gingerbread cookies, Irish Christmas carols and glasses of traditional Austrian Christmas punch.
