This budget is taken from the total of the amount of 4,328,877 million allocated to the Citizen Protection areaof which also 260,000 euros are allocated to the purchase of new clothing for Police, Firefighters and Civil Protection, and 700,000 euros, with an increase of almost 15 percentfor the beach lifeguard service contract. This increase, as explained by Councilor for Citizen Protection of Santander, Eduardo Castilloaims to address the increase in salaries and the planned expansion of benefits.
Castillo has detailed the main items in the accounts that his department will have next year. In order to provide the “best human and material resources” to municipal services (Local Police, Firefighters and Civil Protection) and “promote citizen safety and emergency response” in the city. In addition, the mayor has specified that 190,000 euros are allocated to continue with the renewal of the emergency vehicle park.

Specifically, Santander will allocate 140,000 euros for the acquisition of vehicles for the Local Police and 50,000 euros for fire vehicles, which join the ongoing tender – for an amount of 360,000 euros – for the supply of a new light urban fire engine. Likewise, Castillo has highlighted the municipal effort to guarantee efficiency in communications and has explained that the accounts include an item of 400,000 euros for the maintenance of the communications networks of the different emergency services.
