Hundreds of people in Madrid ask for a ceasefire in Palestine: “We will continue in the streets until the massacre ends”

Hundreds of people have demonstrated in the center of Madrid in solidarity with the Palestinian people and against the collusion that the Spanish State still maintains with Israel, the organizers, the Solidarity Network against the Occupation of Palestine (Rescop), have denounced. The marches have taken place in more than 45 cities throughout the country. They demand, once again, an arms embargo on the country led by Netanyahu and an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen, as well as the breaking of economic, political, cultural and sports relations with Israel.

The protesters have gathered since 6:00 p.m. in Atocha, where the demonstration started. In this way, they have commemorated the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, celebrated every November 29, as established by the United Nations in 1977. “Spain continues to be a transit point for ships with weapons that end up used in a genocide. We try to stop them, but it is impossible for us to reach them all. It has to be the Government that prohibits the passage of these ships through Spanish ports,” demands Hania Faydi, spokesperson for Rescop.

After a first banner that reads “Stop the genocide in Palestine. Long live the struggle of the Palestinian people!”, those gathered have not stopped chanting songs such as “you Zionists, you are the terrorists”, “where are you, the sanctions against Israel cannot be seen” and “the stolen lands will be recovered”. Faydi, for his part, continues to point out the Executive led by Pedro Sánchez: “The Government is very far from the citizens, who do show commitment to the cause. It is very good to recognize Palestine as a State, but that must materialize in actions that try to end the massacre that Israel carries out every day. Meanwhile, we will continue taking to the streets,” he explains.

It is the first march called by Rescop after the International Court of Justice decreed an arrest warrant for war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Israeli president, Netanyahu, and his former Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant. “We have the United Nations special rapporteur supporting the arms embargo and the breakdown of relations. “What is our Government waiting for to stop normalizing Israel before the international community?” asks the organization’s spokesperson.

The rallies have been repeated in fifty municipalities, united to demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Palestine and Lebanon.
