The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, inaugurated this Friday the traditional nativity scene of the Royal Post Officeheadquarters of the regional Government, which this year is inspired by the Moroccan town of Ait Ben Haddou, declared a World Heritage Site in 1987, to create a composition where water is the main protagonist.
“We invite everyone to contemplate this birth, while we enjoy the 300 choirs that will sing live in this patio until the end of the year,” highlighted the president of the Community of Madrid. Ayuso explained that its installation, “with 145 square meters, has more than 480 figures of important and prominent sculptors, such as José Luis Mayo, Hermanos Castells, Hermanos Cerrada, Ángeles Cámara and Olot, among many others”, whom he thanked for their work in reproducing several scenes.
“Has 30 meters of rivers and waterfalls that provide freshness and realism. Beyond the village lies a vast desert. They have been used about 1,200 kilos of cork, 120 boxes of moss and about 1,000 kilos of sand and stones,” explained the head of the regional Executive.
On the tour you can see completely new constructions that have been made expressly for this nativity scene. The visitor is transported to a desert town made with great detail, with its bustling streets, its street vendors and the typical Berber tents.
On the other side of this desert space, the birthplace emerges on a small island surrounded by water, a symbol of life that represents the coming of the Lord, and a spiritual lighthouse and refuge of peace, which invites reflection in the midst of the activity that surrounds it. Two rivers descend from the mountains flowing into a 17 meter long waterfall.
A total of 58 volunteers from the Association of Nativity Scene Makers of Madrid have worked in this spectacular and innovative montage in which they have reproduced eight scenes: the Dream of Joseph, the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, the Visitation of Saint Elizabeth, Asking for Inn, the Annunciation to the shepherds, the Nativity, the Adoration of the Three Wise Men and the Flight into Egypt.
