The Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) announced this Thursday the presentation of Madrid’s candidacy to host the 2029 Eurobasket. The WiZink Center would be the only venue in which the games that would take place over 22 days would be played. The final decision will be known in May.
Specifically, the Spanish capital would host the European competition to host one of the four group stages (a total of 15 matches) and the final round, which would include the 16 matches corresponding to it and which would take place in the middle of September.
If Madrid were chosen, it would be the fourth time that Spain hosts this European competition
If Madrid were the organizer of the 2029 edition, it would be the fourth time that Spain hosts a Eurobasket. The first two date back to 1973 and 1997, which were held in Catalonia. The third, in 2007, already took place at the Palacio de Deportes in Madrid, which was the previous name of the WiZink Center. That year, the Spanish team took silver after losing the final to Russia (59-60).
