The Department of Health of the Generalitat and Barcelona City Council have begun the procedures for the definitive location of five new primary care centers (CAP) in the city in a meeting held today by teams from both institutions and chaired by the councilor Olga Pané and Mayor Jaume Collboni.
The CAP Sardenya will be located on Lepant Street. For its part, the current primary care center on Drassanes Avenue will be expanded by about 1,000 square meters.
The Casanova one will be on Provença street, next to the Ninot market, and the future CAP Casc Antic – the current one is on Lluís Companys promenade – will occupy the building of the General Treasury of Social Security on the Sant Pere ring road, which formerly It had been the headquarters of the social courts. The transfer of this building, together with the monument to Rafael Casanova, is a consequence of the principle of agreement with the State. This CAP will also have a reserved space for a local facility in the Dreta de l’Eixample neighborhood.
Regarding the future CAP Poble Sec-Font de la Guatlla, which will be newly built, it will be built around the Fira de Barcelona venue in Montjuïc and will free up space in the CAP Manso.
Councilor Pané has said that these operations will improve spaces for health professionals and the residents of Barcelona to accommodate healthcare activities that need to be more integrated. Mayor Collboni has specified that an approximate population of 140,000 Barcelona residents will benefit from these CAPs. “Barcelona – the first mayor has declared – wins in health.”
