“I have made the decision not to continue as general secretary of the PSOE of Madrid. I do so to put a stop to a situation of serious confrontation and division that was being generated in the party, that was only going to damage the PSOE in Madrid and the progress in unity that we had achieved in these three years. My goal has always been to build an ambitious and hopeful project for Madrid, and that is how it should continue to be in the future,” Lobato wrote.
Lobato does not expressly mention the matter that led to his resignation, which is his move to a notary office to communicate some WhatsApp messages with Pilar Sánchez Acera on account of the case of Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s boyfriend. But he does acknowledge that “without a doubt” his “form
of doing politics is not the same nor perhaps sometimes compatible with what a majority of the current leadership of his party has. “Nothing happens. I assume it democratically. But I cannot give up being who I am and how I have always been,” says the former leader of the Madrid socialist federation.
