A senior police officer confirms in the National Court that he received the request to spy on 69 Podemos deputies

The retired commissioner Germán Rodríguez Castiñeira, who was the head of the anti-terrorist fight in the Police, confirmed this Tuesday in the National Court that he received the request to search the background of the 69 Podemos deputies who came out of the December elections. 2015 and that he refused to do so, legal sources inform elDiario.es. Castiñeira has declared himself under investigation in the case that is being pursued for the dirty war against Podemos in the Central Court of Instruction number 5, headed by Santiago Pedraz.

At the time of the events, Castiñeira was the head of the Madrid Provincial Information Brigade. One of the elements that supports the Podemos complaint that gave rise to the case is a WhatsApp conversation intercepted by the former number two in the Ministry of the Interior with the PP Francisco Martínez. In that conversation he speaks with a commander from the General Information Commission, Enrique García Castaño, to request compromising information about the new Podemos deputies. García Castaño assures that he has asked the person appearing today before Judge Pedraz, Germán Castiñeira, to look for that data.

Over time, Castiñeira would rise and the PP would place him in charge of the General Information Commissioner, a position from which he was dismissed with the arrival of the PSOE to the Government. This Tuesday, Castiñeira declared that he responded to García Castaño’s request by refusing, with anger and alluding to the fact that it was “a suicide” because, among other things, the tracking of information in police databases leaves a trace of who carried it out. . Faced with this angry response, always according to Castiñeira’s version, García Castaño told him that it was “a joke.” Castiñeira has answered the questions of the prosecutor, Vicente González Mota, and his lawyer, and has refused to answer the popular accusations.

This second commissioner, Enrique García Castaño, known in the Police as ‘El Gordo’, will not be able to testify due to his delicate state of health, after having suffered a serious cardiovascular accident. His prosecution in the Kitchen case has declined for the same reason.

Although García Castaño worked in the central Information services and Castiñeira in those of the Madrid Provincial Headquarters, the former was not superior to the latter. Martínez’s assignment to García Castaño occurred within the framework of the actions of the political brigade with the PP, whether against the Catalan separatists, to harm Podemos or to benefit the PP in the case of Caja B.

“There is nothing. Screw the bitch!”

On January 30, 2016, the talks between PSOE and Podemos for the formation of a government were in an incipient phase. The results of the general elections of the previous December 20 had opened the possibility that an agreement between both parties would unseat the Popular Party. The acting Ministry of the Interior squeezed the machinery of its political brigade to be able to offer negative information about Podemos to related media. The Secretary of State for Security then wrote to Gordo: “Those from Podemos who had a record, were you able to confirm anything? Commissioner Enrique García Castaño answers that “nothing.” “Cagüenlaputa!” exclaims Francisco Martínez.

The conversation appears in the WhatsApp messages intercepted by Martínez in 2020, within the framework of the investigation into parapolice espionage of Luis Bárcenas using reserved funds. The main defendant, Francisco Martínez, has requested that the case be archived because he considers it a crime to use his messages, obtained in the context of the Kitchen case, in the Pedraz investigation, after Judge Manuel García Castellón suspended his access to the same ones. “It would be very interesting to know… And if they have been involved in national issues, issues of violent extremism, etc…”, writes the number two of the Interior to the police officer.

“Josetxu Arrieta was the only one who belonged to ETA,” the commissioner explains to the politician. García Castaño explains about some photos that he had previously sent to Martínez: “[Es] the last one that appears in the photos I sent you, the Moors with those names, nothing.” The Secretary of State for Security reveals his disappointment: “I say that if the others are clean… no street violence, anarchs, etc.???” The commissioner answers: “I’ll look at it again, but I don’t think so.”
