On June 7, 2023, the fragile house of cards that Viktoria had woven in Madrid collapsed. Late in the afternoon, agents from Group XVIII of the Madrid Judicial Police Brigade and Group 32 of the Central Narcotics Brigade knocked on the door of his home. Her partner, Cesáreo, head of a cocaine production network, had just referred to her as “a friend of his.” In March, Viktoria blew out the candles for her 32nd birthday in a cell at the Alcalá-Meco women’s prison, where she has been for a year and a half, accused of a crime against public health that she always claimed to be unaware of all this time.
His misfortune, just over 15 kilos of coca (partly reduced after purity analysis in the laboratory) and a short gun with three cartridges that the National Police found that day at his home. An apartment that Cesáreo himself had left her so as not to share a roof, after getting the young woman to leave her native Bulgaria in exchange for a supposed love relationship. Yesterday, the person under investigation reached an agreement before being tried in the Provincial Court, by which she will be released today after accepting a two-year sentence.
The rest of those involved in the plot, six individuals (all men), did the same with uneven luck. Cesáreo was sentenced as the author of a crime against public health and possession of a prohibited weapon to eight years in prison and a fine of 800,000 euros; Jairo and Jorge Enrique, co-authors, seven years and 800,000 euros; Juan Carlos, necessary cooperator, to four years and 654,000 euros; and Tito Julio, Juan Sebastián and Óscar Manuel, accomplices, to two years and 327,000 euros.
Viktoria’s exit onto the street was something expected given that in the elaborate police investigation, with a multitude of surveillance, follow-ups and countless inquiries that arose on the fly, there is not a single image in which the accused appears. But then, if in the more than seven months of investigation she was not captured in any of the movements recorded by the agents, how is it possible that she ended up behind bars? His defense, led by the lawyer Ignacio Estradé and his partner Patricia Marcos, is clear. A relationship of economic and emotional dependence, simmering after making a ‘match’ on Tinder: Viktoria, 31 years old on the day of her arrest; Cesáreo, 57, or in other words, 26 years older than her.
Through the small screen, is where all the risk patterns begin to replicate. The woman stopped having contact with her father when she was a child, which has always led her to establish relationships with much older people, like the man, Cesáreo, with whom she now does not stop chatting. He constantly flatters him that he has a better life, that he has a future as a couple… although 3,500 kilometers from his place of residence. In order to convince her, he travels to Bulgaria to meet her mother and aunt, a gesture by which he will soon get what he wants.
Contrary to any type of cliché, Viktoria has a high academic background, with a master’s degree in Ibero-American studies included; and is handled in several languages. Your problem, therefore, is not the head. It is the heart. In fact, once detained and questioned by her lawyer in the courts of Móstoles, she admitted being a victim of VioGén and testimony was deduced in favor of the Court of Violence against Women; a route finally shelved due to her refusal to move forward.
Once settled in Madrid, the Bulgarian woman becomes at the mercy of her new boyfriend: sexual relations only when he wants, and the same with the meager money that he gives her to survive. His degree of economic dependence is such that he even sells his erotic videos on Skype. And all, at the same time that the agents of the National Police begin to monitor the steps of Cesáreo (a guy who says he dedicates himself to “real estate issues”) and his cronies. The reality, however, is very different. On June 24, 2023, the National Police sends a press release informing of the arrest of a renowned ‘drug chef’, in an operation against the production and treatment of cocaine.
A headline-hook to attract the attention of the media, which has an entire drug trafficking network behind it, with two clandestine laboratories (a chalet in Villanueva de la Cañada and another in El Álamo), two floors-burrow (in Talavera de la Reina and a town in Toledo, Villarrubia de Santiago), 150 kilograms of precursors, 20 kilograms of cocaine ready for consumption, four firearms and numerous materials laboratory to cook the drug.
An anonymous email
The first investigations begin in October 2022, after a resident of the villa in Villanueva de la Cañada sends an email to antidroga@policía.es, the email address that the National Corps has enabled to receive complaints related to drug trafficking. In the message, the sender warns of an unusual movement of people of South American origin, as well as a strong smell of chemicals and the presence of a van in charge of unloading bottles.
A first sign that sets off alarm bells among experts in this field, who are aware that certain criminal organizations acquire large quantities of chemical substances and precursors, which they hide in clandestine laboratories and use to extract cocaine base, the prelude to the white powder that It will be sold on the street.
The investigation gets underway and little by little new characters and settings appear in the plot. Based on the controls carried out, the officials confirm that all those investigated take security and counter-surveillance measures, and that they do not carry out any work activity. Some also have a history of drug trafficking and even the ‘famous’ chef that the Police speak of in their note presents a European arrest warrant issued by the Italian authorities.
Viktoria is linked to a call in Bulgarian with her aunt, in which she refers to Cesáreo’s friendship with people who would have been arrested for various rackets. The fact of looking the other way and zero emotional intelligence ended up doing the rest: 17 months in jail and a Tinder ‘love’ that he will never forget.
