“Together, fear changes sides.” This has been the motto of this 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The transinclusive demonstration, which began in Atocha at 7:00 p.m. and ended at the Metrópolis building around 9:15 p.m., brought together some 3,000 people. The trans-exclusive one began at the same time from Cibeles and ended in the Plaza de España.
The march transinclusivewhich we have broadcast live on YouTube, has brought together different social groups and political groups. At the head was the Commission 8M followed by Greenpeace, Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, The Spanish Communist Party, Podemos or Sumar, inter alia.
The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, Together with her cabinet colleagues Pilar Alegría and Elma Saiz, she participated in the march called by El Foro de Madrid and the Feminist Movement of Madrid, which started from Cibeles, where slogans such as “Against sexism, more feminism” were heard.
The transinclusive march, on the contrary, has brought together different Podemos leaders such as Ione Belarra or Irene Montero. “At least one in two women in Spain has suffered sexist violence at some point in their life, which is why we have to go much further,” Montero explained to Público during the demonstration.
“We are seeing a reactionary sexist offensive, which feeds rape culture”
Irene Montero has emphasized that all women have the right to live a life free of sexist violence. “There are still those who justify the aggressors and there are still deniers, we are seeing a reactionary sexist offensive, that feeds the rape culture”fencing.
Tribute to the victims and transversal struggle
Upon reaching the Cibeles roundabout and in front of the City Hall, the 8M Commission has decided to pay tribute to all the victims of sexist violence, to all the women who have been murdered this year, naming them one by one and keeping a minute of silence for them.
“María Celeste, 46 years old, Estepa”, The activists have read in reference to the last confirmed victim, to which the attendees have responded with the cry of “Murdered!”
Regarding the division of 25N in the streets, Amaya Ugarte and Ana Martínez, from the 8M Movement, have explained that their call is a march “inclusive, open and in which they will always walk hand in hand with people who seek to expand our rights”, in relation to the trans community.
Furthermore, the feminist struggle, they recalled when reading the manifesto, is a struggle that cuts across other groups, such as people migrantsrural women, trans people, etc. They have mentioned the need for a regularization of migrants and also to end the genocide in Palestine.
