Begoña Gómez’s defense has asked the judge to carry out a battery of proceedings that would dismantle the last two accusations of Juan Carlos Peinado, regarding the alleged commission by the wife of the President of the Government of the crimes of professional intrusion and misappropriation . Peinado has accused Gómez of having registered a trademark that, however, the former director of the extraordinary chair claims that she created and that she never registered in the Intellectual Property Registry.
“The idea of Competitive Social Transformation was contributed by my client, who proposed it to the Complutense University to give a title to the master’s degree,” Gómez’s defense states in a letter in which he requests the judge in the case to cite the current director of the School of Government of the Complutense University to ratify how the “origin” of the master’s degree on Competitive Social Transformation was created.
Judge Peinado has charged Gómez with the two new crimes based on a complaint from the ultra-Catholic association Hazteoír. The complainant accuses the president’s wife of “having “registered” a company in her name with the master’s degree, TSC Competitive Social Transformation, and then doing the same with the software, the digital tool that would have been created through the financing of private companies.
Begoña Gómez’s defense denies that she appropriated the brand and that her client only registered the domain on the Internet. “Emails are provided that show that the registration of the domain, not the Intellectual Property, was carried out following the instructions of the Complutense University itself.” At least one of those emails had emerged four months before Peinado decided to extend the investigation into Gómez due to the ultras’ complaint. “We sent you a link on how to register a domain,” the official says in that message to Gómez.
Furthermore, Gómez’s defense explains to the judge that there are other master’s degrees at Compluentse whose directors have registered the domain in their name and takes the opportunity to request that the co-director of one of them be summoned, as well as the documentation that accredits it. In this sense, lawyer Antonio Camacho asks the judge to take statements from the two members of the Research Results Transfer Office who explained to Gómez how he had to register the domain.
Judge Peinado also accuses Gómez of professional intrusion. In this case for signing some documents, supposedly, without having the training to do so. Begoña Gómez’s lawyer asks the judge to summon the University auditor who last week attended the investigative commission of the Madrid Assembly and who declared that everything was carried out “in accordance with the rules” of the teaching center.
Furthermore, the defense alleges, if Begoña Gómez signed those documents it was because the University “expressly” asked her to do so. In this sense, it also requests that the person who requested this from Gómez, also staff of the Complutense, be called to testify.
