Rafa Nadal and Meliá Hotels International have inaugurated ZEL Punta Cana, the first hotel outside Spain of the ZEL brand, the hotel group shared by the chain and the Spanish former tennis player, days after his definitive retirement from tennis. The hotel, located on Cortecito beach, in Bávaro (Dominican Republic), is the third establishment under the ZEL name, after the hotels in Mallorca and Costa Brava. In this way, the expansion of the brand in international markets is consolidated.
As stated Gabriel Escarrerpresident and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, consider that ZEL is an authentic Mediterranean embassy, and hope to introduce “their lifestyle experience” in Punta Cana. The brand tries to promote the balance between active well-being and rest, integrating entertainment spaces and sport with relaxation areas.
As for the hotel facilities, it has 190 rooms and suites perfectly integrated into the environment. The hotel adopts the philosophy of “outdoor living” and biophilic design, ideally integrating with the nature that surrounds its enclave, also respecting the original architecture.
In relation to the gastronomic offer, ZEL Punta Cana has seven restaurantswhose specialty is the fusion of Mediterranean cuisine, a flagship aspect of the Meliá Group, with local flavors. Among others, at ZEL Punta Cana you can dine at the Parda buffet, the Volcán grill or the Tacorini restaurant, which mixes Greek and Mexican cuisine. At the same time, the complex will have a Beach Clubequipped with ideal spaces dedicated to enjoying a wide variety of wines and cocktails.
With the influence of one of ZEL’s owners, Rafa Nadal, the complex could not skimp on sports spaces. The hotel has five tennis courts, as well as access to the golf course of the Cocotal Country Club. The sports offer is completed with a program of wellness activities, such as yoga, fitness and weekend retreats.
Regarding the future of the brand, 2025 aims to be a year of progress and expansion for ZEL Hotels. They plan to open their first urban hotel, located in the Gran Via of Madridas well as continue its expansion throughout Latin America by landing in Mexicoin the town of Sayulita. In 2026, in turn, the brand will direct its sights towards Europewith the opening of a hotel in the city of Vlora, Albaniaone of the jewels of the Mediterranean. This was confirmed at the inauguration of the ZEL Costa Brava hotel, where the Prime Minister of Albania was present, Edi Rama.
