The professional boxer Tina Rupprecht has celebrated a historic success. By winning the unification fight against the Japanese Eri Matsuda in Heidelberg, the Augsburg native holds the world title of the WBC, WBO and WBA associations in the atomweight class up to 46.2 kilograms. Never before had a German professional held three important world championship belts for women and men at the same time. Rupprecht won the WBC title in January.
“It’s indescribable, it’s my life’s dream. “I still can’t believe it,” said the 32-year-old, who also received the prestigious belt from the boxing magazine “The Ring”. This is awarded by the specialist journalists of the American magazine when, in their opinion, the two best boxers in the world compete against each other. From a German perspective, this award had previously only been given to Max Schmeling in 1930.
Rupprecht also completed her 14th victory as a professional in Heidelberg, having only lost a fight once. The boxer delivered a strong fight against her competitor and won on points (97:92, 96:93, 96:93). The secondary school teacher laid the foundation for her victory in the first round when she sent Matsuda to the ground with a solid hit on the chin.
