Olympic champion Aljona Savchenko is no longer a coach at the Chemnitz Ice Skating Club. As the “Freie Presse” reports, the 40-year-old had already terminated her contract in August. Savchenko returned to Chemnitz in April 2023. Her former partner Robin Szolkowy, with whom she won five World Cup titles and two Olympic bronze medals in pair skating, is employed in Chemnitz on a fee basis.
Savchenko’s voluntary exit now led to mutual accusations. She was “systematically bullied” in the club and could not work “in such a toxic atmosphere,” said Savchenko. According to reports, she has found a new job in Italy. The relationship with the Chemnitz club management was apparently broken. Alyona had “violated employee obligations such as recording working hours,” said chairwoman Stephanie Schneider.
