The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, dismisses the Minister of Justice, Salomé Pradas, three weeks after DANA, as confirmed by sources close to him. The counselor responsible for emergencies leaves the regional Executive after a catastrophe that has left 220 fatalities.
It is the second dismissal of the Mazón Government after the Minister of Tourism, Nuria Montes. The Presidency does not refer to the reasons for the dismissal or to the flood of last October 29 in the statement informing of his replacement.
Juan Carlos Valderrama Zuírán will assume the Department of Emergencies and Interior, and Nuria Martínez Sanchis will be appointed Minister of Justice, replacing Salomé Pradas, who until now was the Minister of Justice and Interior. The Valencian president concludes this Wednesday the remodeling of the Executive announced last Friday.
The new Minister of Emergencies and Interior is a doctor in Medicine and Surgery and is currently a professor at the University of Valencia in the Department of History of Science and Documentation and director of the Social and Health Information and Research group (UISY Group), reports the Generalitat in a statement.
Between 2014 and 2017 he was subdelegate of the Government in the province of Valencia, carrying out his duties with the State Security Forces and Bodies, Local Police, Private Security, the National Police Corps Unit assigned to the Valencian Community and Civil Protection.
In 2024 he received the Cross of Military Merit with White Badge; in 2018 the Gold Decoration of the Generalitat for Police Merit, and in 2017 the Cross for Police Merit with White Badge, among other awards.
Nuria Martínez Sanchis will be appointed Minister of Justice. Martínez Sanchis has a degree in Law from the University of Valencia in 1999 and a doctorate in Law from the Catholic University of Valencia in 2016. She has been practicing law since 2000; Between 2018 and 2023, she was the dean of the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences of the Catholic University of Valencia, where she is a professor of Civil Law and several postgraduate courses at the Catholic University of Valencia. She is also the director of a university master’s degree in Law and Procurement.
In the statement from the Presidency, it is indicated: “The President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, appreciates the political generosity and high vision of Salomé Pradas, recognizing her great work both in her current functions and in those she carried out as Minister of Environment, Water, Infrastructure and Territory.”
