Law graduate, marketing expert and president of the footwear association, a key economic sector in the Valencian Community: Marián Cano (La Nucía, 1969) is Carlos Mazón’s first signing for his reconstruction government, a political attempt to turn the page on the tragedy that struck the Valencian regions on October 29. She will be appointed Minister of Industry and Tourism to replace Núria Montes, who was struck down after her controversial statements regarding the DANA victims.
The Valencian president maintains his interest in Alicante with the signing of the executive president of the Valencian Association of Footwear Entrepreneurs (AVECAL) since 2015. Cano, sister of Bernabé Cano, mayor of La Nucía, a man very close to the president, was the Mazón’s bet on the PP lists for the European elections. She ranked number 26 on the popular ballots, the only Valencian along with Esteban González Pons, another sure value in the party. Cano was far from being a MEP.
While Montes responded to a profile focused on tourism promotion, of which the PP Executive has constantly championed, after the meteorological disaster the Valencian leader points to the other pole: he chooses a representative of the industry, specifically from a sector deeply rooted in the territory, which symbolizes that idea of reconstruction. Its task will be fundamental in the recovery of small businesses – more than 5,000 affected in l’Horta Sud – and industrial estates, with strategic enclaves such as Riba-Roja or Alaquás destroyed, as well as the surrounding commercial areas.
In a statement, the Executive highlights his extensive professional career. The footwear sector is a sector that she knows: it began in 2010 when she was appointed general secretary of the Elche Footwear Industrialists Association (AICE); In 2020 she assumed the interim presidency of the Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries (FICE), which she held until 2022, and since then she has been general secretary of FICE (Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries). In 2023 she was appointed member of the Executive Committee of the Alicante Chamber.
Among other representative bodies, he is also part of the Executive Committee of the Valencian Community Business Confederation (CEV), Plenary Session of the Social Dialogue Table of the Generalitat, member of the Valencian Industry and Economic Sectors Observatory, General Assembly of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) and Assembly of the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (Cepyme), among other positions, as highlighted by the Executive.
