The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, has declared the rain alert on the island of La Palma starting at 03:00 on Monday, November 18, given the forecast of precipitation in the form of heavy showers and probable very strong and/or stormy showers, with precipitation equal to or greater than 100 mm in twelve hours or 200 mm in twenty-four hours.
In the rest of the islands, the Government Pre-alert situation for rain is maintained declared on November 15 due to the forecast that rainfall will occur unevenly distributed throughout the archipelago. The most notable ones are expected on the western and southern slopes of the most prominent islands and could be persistent on the western islands.
In addition, the pre-alert for storms remains in force throughout the Canary Islands, also declared last Friday due to the possibility that this type of meteorological phenomena could be recorded, which are generally accompanied by gusts of strong wind and precipitation.
These decisions are made based on the prediction of the AEMET and other available sources and in application of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
Given this situation, the Government of the Canary Islands recommends that the population take extreme precautionsespecially if you are outdoors and insist on following the self-protection advice established in these cases to avoid risks.
