Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca, Arnedo, Pamplona, Zaragoza, Valencia, Segovia, Vigo, Malaga and Xixon These were some of the cities in which demonstrations and rallies took place this Sunday under the same motto, “In solidarity with those affected by the DANA crisis: Urgent and global climate justice!”.
The protesters, who gathered at the Wall in Xixón, summoned by Asturias for the Climatepointed out the importance of adopting strong political measures so that disasters related to global warming, such as those caused by Dana, do not occur again.
The mobilizations highlighted that the latest damages, which have caused havoc and deaths mainly in the Valencian Community, are linked to a climate crisis that primarily affects the global south, but also the Mediterranean.
The demonstrations have coincided with the Climate Summit being held in Azerbaijan. Environmentalists ask for “a firm commitment” from the Government and the European Union to “increase climate financing to countries in the global south.”
The abandonment of fossil fuels and the complete decarbonization of the economy are some of the main demands of the movement, which also focused on the danger of increased wars and the arms race.
