He “vishing”also known as telephone scampursues the objective of obtaining the personal or banking information of the victims through false calls. In them they use the impersonation of public entities, banks, technical support of companies…And they end up evolving into the also popularly known “double call scam”.
This is that, through the security codes sent by SMSscammers try to access online accounts. This is precisely what he has warned about Movistar, since a new hoax is circulating that impersonates the telephone company for a supposed router change, but which hides very different objectives.
The scam of the router change that impersonates Movistar
Movistar reports that first the scammer poses as a company worker who reports a rate increase or change in conditions preceded by a best price offer and of a router change. They expect the user to accept it and provide him with a security code that they supposedly need to be able to make the change.
The objective with that code is to have access to the account myMovistar and it will be in the second call, in which they explain the new offer, where the scammer asks the victim for the numerical code that is generated with SMS. If the user gives it to them, cybercriminals will have access to the digital account. From Movistar they report that “If you receive a call from an unknown number to change the router, do not trust it, They are trying to get your passwords from myMovistar”.
It must be remembered that legitimate companies are required by law to communicate in writing any changes to the contract or in the conditions thereof with 30 days notice. This means that if you receive a call of this type you should ignore it completely, plus They will never ask you for a security code over the phone.
