The National Assembly of the Commons has approved its political and organizational presentation with 80% of the votes in favor. Specifically, the text has received 389 votes in favor, 60 against and 33 abstentions. It has also approved the management report of the executive, made up of Ada Colau, Candela López and Jéssica Albiach, but it has done so barely, with only 46.25% of the votes in favor. 36.19% have opposed, and 17.56% have abstained.
The party thus begins its new post-Colau stage, with its sights set on “growing” as a political space and with the mandate to improve results after an electoral cycle that “has not been positive,” as mentioned in the presentation approved this Sunday. .
The text establishes the mission of the commons to lead the construction of a social political majority that allows them to address a “very broad social space”, while defining themselves as a “force of struggle and government.” According to the party, Catalonia is in a “transitional stage” after the process, which can give them options to grow electorally.
In the document, the Comuns consider that a new political scenario is opening up, in which Catalan society “is rediscovering itself in a new Catalanism.” In this sense, they warn that Catalonia has two possible paths: either a majority oriented “towards the elites and economic powers”, or another that is “the construction of a popular majority.”
The text supports a “new pact with the State to achieve strong self-government based on unique financing and recognition of the plurinational and plurilingual character of the State.” In fact, he assures that “Catalonia needs its own financing as the central axis of a renewed self-government”, while pointing out that the change in the financing system must also be “an opportunity for all the territories of the common regime” to see “satisfied ” their “legitimate aspirations for fair financing.”
The new executive
The highest body of the executive is in the hands of Candela López, former mayor of Castelldefels, deputy and vice-president of the Barcelona Provincial Council, and Gemma Tarafa, councilor and spokesperson in Barcelona. López is the only one who repeats the triumvirate from the previous stage, in which she shared the position with Colau and Albiach. During the assembly this weekend, López announced that he will leave his seat in Parliament to avoid “the accumulation” of positions.
Albiach takes charge of a newly created position and becomes, together with Ernest Urtasun, Minister of Culture and spokesperson for Sumar, the party’s institutional leader. She in Catalonia and he in the Government. While López and Tarafa will focus more on organic issues of training, they will be in charge of explaining the strategy.
On the other hand, deputies Aina Vidal and Gerardo Pisarello will be in charge of the spokespersons, a position they will share and in which they will replace deputy Joan Mena.
An aspect to which the Comuns have given a lot of importance during the Assembly this weekend is the need for the party to gain muscle in the municipalities and become present beyond Barcelona. The commitment to municipalism will define the new stage of the Comuns after the departure of Colau and the loss of the Catalan capital.
Lídia Muñoz and Tània Corrons will be in charge of this. The first was mayor of Sant Feliu de Llobregat and the second has been in charge of the organization and finances of the training.
