De’Aaron Fox gave a 60-point performance this Friday but could not prevent the Sacramento Kings’ defeat against the Minnesota Timberwolves (126-130) on the second day of the Emirates NBA Cup.
With a personal record for scoring and also for a player in the history of the Kings, Fox dazzled with 60 points and a formidable 22 of 35 in field goals, 6 of 10 in triples and 10 of 11 in free throws. In addition, the point guard added 7 assists.
However, the Kings (7-6), who trailed by 20 points in the third quarter, fell in overtime to the Wolves (7-6) who canceled Fox’s historic performance led by Anthony Edwards ( 36 points) and Julius Randle (26 points).
The Cavaliers remain undefeated (144-126)
With 14 consecutive games without knowing defeat, the Cleveland Cavaliers equaled the fourth best start in NBA history and now only have three precedents ahead of them: the 24-0 of the Golden State Warriors (2015-2016) and the 15- 0 of the Houston Rockets (1993-1994) and the Washington Capitols (1948-1949).
Donovan Mitchell, with 37 points and 7 rebounds, took the helm of Cleveland, which also had 29 points and 9 assists from Darius Garland, 24 points and 10 rebounds from Jarret Allen and 22 points and 8 assists from Caris LeVert. For the Bulls (5-8), Coby White (29 points) and Zach LaVine (25 points and 8 rebounds) were the standouts.
San Antonio Spurs, 115 – Los Angeles Lakers, 120
LeBron James (15 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists) chained his four consecutive triple-doubles, something he had not done so far in his legendary career, and the Lakers (8-4) achieved their fourth consecutive victory thanks to a brilliant Anthony Davis with 40 points and 12 rebounds.
For the Spurs (6-7), Victor Wembanyama, who dazzled with 50 points in the previous game, had 28 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists against 5 turnovers. Chris Paul (11 points and 11 assists) made history by surpassing 12,000 assists in his career, something that only two players in NBA history had achieved: John Stockton and Jason Kidd.
Orlando Magic, 98 – Philadelphia Sixers, 86
Five wins in a row have led Magic (8-6) who continue to compete wonderfully despite the fact that Paolo Banchero is injured. Franz Wagner led Orlando with 31 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists.
Instead, the Sixers remain sunk with an atrocious record of 2-10. Joel Embiid had 20 points and 8 rebounds with a poor 5 of 15 shooting and 6 turnovers. Paul George was also not good with 13 points and 4 of 15 attempts to the basket. The best news for Philadelphia was rookie Jared McCain, who stood out again and finished with 29 points.
New York Knicks, 124 – Brooklyn Nets, 122
Jalen Brunson, with a saving triple with 6.2 seconds remaining, rescued the Knicks (6-6) who were on the verge of being beaten by the Nets, coached by Spanish Jordi Fernández, who trailed by 18 points in the final quarter.
Cam Thomas gave a recital for the Nets (5-8) with 43 points and splendid shooting: 16 of 22 on field goals and 7 of 10 on triples. For his part, Brunson shone for the Knicks with 37 points and 7 assists. Mikal Bridges, in his reunion with the Nets, scored 22 points.
Oklahoma City Thunder, 99 – Phoenix Suns, 83
In this duel between two teams at the top of the West, the Thunder (11-2) beat the Suns (9-4) with 28 points and 6 rebounds from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Oklahoma’s defense held Phoenix to a terrible 29.3% shooting from the field. Josh Okogie, with 15 points and 9 rebounds, was the most productive of the Suns.
