Jake Paul defeats Mike Tyson, one of the best boxers in history

Jake Paul, social media ‘influencer’, beat Mike Tyson, considered one of the best boxers in history, this Friday by unanimous decision at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The judges’ scorecards favored Paul 79-73, 79-73 and 80-72.

The fight, which was official in nature, although not sanctioned by any of the boxing organizations around the world, was agreed upon for eight rounds of two minutes each. In it, Tyson (58 years old) accused the passing of years from the beginning of the fight, despite the fact that he avoided a right hand from his 27-year-old opponent with a waist movement from the former heavyweight champion.

Paul took advantage of his speed in the second round to move in and out with the jab to stay away from the former heavyweight champion’s once devastating blows. In the third round ‘Iron’ Mike’s slowness worsened, Jake hit him with a pair of left hands that shook his head. The fourth round showed off the heavyweight legend, with his guard tied in front of the ‘influencer’ who seemed to consent to him so as not to hurt him.

The veteran born in Fort Greene, New York maintained his attitude at six and seven. Guard up, no energy to fight. Paul didn’t push. He scored again and again with the jab, at an average of five to one of his rival who was noticeably gasping between each episode. In the eighth and final round it was more of the same, with both boxers pacing the ring. Jake Paul landed 97 punches to Tyson’s 18 throughout the fight.

The former heavyweight champion retired with a record of 50 victories

‘Iron’ Mike retired from professional boxing in 2005 with a record of 50 wins, 44 of them by fast track and six losses. In Paul’s boxing career, which started in 2018, he has 10 wins, seven by knockout, and one loss.

Tyson’s purse for this fight was 20 million dollars, Paul earned 40 million. The fight received extensive promotion and was broadcast through Netflix, a video-on-demand platform with more than 280 million subscribers worldwide that generated almost $34 billion in revenue last year.
