However, it is difficult to think about the economic aspects; One of Elon Musk’s first measures was to remove the company from Wall Street. This means that getting information about X’s finances is quite difficult. Nevertheless, The Washington Post reports that Musk’s management would have had a disastrous impact, causing a loss of $5 billion for investors who participated in the acquisition.
X’s rivals: who wins
But where will the deserters end up? Most of them gather their followers on other social networks, mainly Facebook and Instagram. However, these are platforms with different characteristics than X, which over the years has led to microblogging to become a kind of “institutional” communication tool. Additionally, both Meta platforms are considered “saturated.”
But there are other social networks that aspire to be the new alternatives to X. If you are about to uninstall X and want to migrate to new apps, These might interest you:
Mastodon
The first mass migration since Musk’s purchase of X was the Mastodon engine. It is a great platform but it requires effort to register and learn to master it. This network of microblogging It focuses on the open source and decentralized nature, where users manage themselves.
Hive
Hive is another social network very similar to X, with a feed organized chronologically and with a certain inclination towards music: you can add songs to your profile MySpace style, and with no limit on publications. The app for Android and iPhone is well thought out, although it is sometimes unresponsive.
One of the most unexpected alternatives to X is LinkedIn, the social network created to connect users who are looking for or offering employment. Its social aspect is increasingly complex, it pays little attention to luxuries and can create good connections and communities of debate.
Threads
The app Instagram subsidiary has extremely similar characteristics to its rival, although it is not gaining many users. After the initial binge, in which a large number of registrations were recorded linked more to the novelty effect than anything else, it now has a user base of around 275 million; a figure that was influenced by the mandatory link with Instagram accounts, with the possibility of establishing an automatic exchange of publications between both social networks. The Meta platform also has a dubious reputation for transparency in the presentation of content. And if one of the criticisms of
And Bluesky?
From an “ethical” point of view, the social network of microblogging launched publicly last February by Jack Dorsey, has everything to gain from the flight of X users. Bluesky, the invitation-only platform, claims to be the new creation of the “father of Twitter.”
Bluesky is based on the open AT (Authenticated Transfer) protocol, designed for the management of decentralized social networks, and guarantees maximum transparency in terms of the logic with which content is displayed. Its aesthetics and functionality are very reminiscent of the first Twitter, and for this reason, it is considered a natural alternative to X. The number of subscribers has grown significantly throughout the year, reaching 15 million active users. If we analyze the dynamics in detail, we discover that many of them come from X. A possible factor that benefited the increase in users was the ban of X in Brazil, linked to a series of legal issues involving Musk’s company. In short, if we had to bet on which X’s successor would be, Bluesky is the undisputed winner.
