The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has enabled a search engine on its website (in which be able to locate the place where the vehicles affected by DANA are located on interurban roads. The option is found in a section created for extraordinary procedures
At this time, the list only has the information of the vehicles traveling on an interurban road at the time of the DANA and that have been removed and deposited by the agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard, as reported this Friday by the DGT.
In these 2,500 vehicles, in addition to those that already have a claim file opened with the Insurance Compensation Consortium (in total about 104,000), Traffic is proceeding to give a temporary discharge ex officio with the aim of benefiting the owner of the vehicle affected and out of circulation. In this administrative situation Obligations such as the payment of road tax are suspended on January 1, 2025 or be up to date with the Technical Vehicle Inspection.
Whether your vehicle appears on the list or not, the owners must contact the Insurance Compensation Consortium to be able to start the claim file and be able to remove it from the place where it is located or order its transfer to one of the 84 authorized treatment centers in the region.
The rest of the owners whose vehicles have been affected by DANA and have not yet been identified by the Insurance Compensation Consortium or the corresponding authorities of the Valencian Community, can request temporary leave through a section enabled on the DGT website. This procedure can be done free of charge and by filling out a simple form, while the compensation files for damage to the vehicle or its repair are managed.
The cancellation can be requested by calling 060, in person at the Provincial Traffic Headquarters of Valencia and Alzira or through the administrative managers, regular collaborators of the Administration in these administrative procedures. All affected vehicles will have an entry in the vehicle registry as “affected by DANA” both to avoid putting it into circulation without first passing the vehicle’s technical inspection, and to avoid possible fraud on the second-hand market.
120,000 vehicles
The estimates made The total number of vehicles affected by DANA is estimated at 120,000. Predictably, 98% of these will have to be scrapped and, consequently, permanently decommissioned. For this reason, in anticipation of the high number of vehicles that may be abandoned in different places in the affected areas, the Insurance Compensation Consortium is designing, in coordination with DGT, the Ministry of Industry and the Spanish Association of Scrapping and Recycling of the Automobile (AEDRA), an agile process of withdrawal and destruction that allows us to contribute to recovering normality in the area.
In cases where, after having been temporarily discharged, they can be taken to a workshop for recovery, in agreement with the insurer and the Consortium, an extraordinary technical inspection of the vehicle must be passed and subsequently request registration in the vehicle registry, also free of charge.
On the contrary, in the event that the owner, once the vehicle has been located and in view of the damage, decides to remove it from circulation, You must call an Authorized Environmental Treatment Center for its destruction.. These centers are the only ones authorized to decontaminate and destroy vehicles in accordance with environmental criteria, as well as to issue the corresponding destruction certificate that they will deliver to the owner of said vehicle. Once the information on the definitive deregistration of the vehicles is recorded in the DGT Vehicle Registry, it will be provided to the town councils to update their fleet and manage the road tax.
Other procedures
In addition to the temporary or permanent withdrawal, a duplicate driving license may be requested due to the loss or destruction of the driving license. This will be sent to the interested party, to the existing address in the General Registry of Drivers that appears in the DGT or to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters. Next week too a duplicate of the circulation permit may be requested and the technical data sheet of the vehicle in digital format.
