The Spanish pension system leaves a very unequal panorama between the autonomous communities, with up to 500 euros of difference per month. This is shown by the latest data from the National Social Security Institute. This report, which refers to the amount received by Spanish retirees as of October 1, 2024, sample, on average, 1,447.36 euros per month are charged in the country on October 1, 2024. The Basque Country is the community with the largest pension in Spain. Its retirees earn about 1,769 euros. It is followed by Asturias, which occupies second position with a monthly amount of 1,716 euros. Pensions in Navarra and Cantabria also exceed the national average, with 1,625 and 1,535 euros, respectively. These figures are very far from the pensions received by retirees in the south. Extremadurans receive about 1,216 euros per month, about 500 euros than the Basques.
The average pension in Galicia and its provinces
This is not the case of Galicia. Despite being in the north of the country, Galicians do not reach the national average and They have the second lowest pension in Spainbehind Extremadura. The nearly half a million retirees in this community earn around 1,235 euros per month. This figure is higher in the provinces of A Coruña and Pontevedra, although neither reaches the country’s average.
The people of Pontevedra earn about 1,296 euros per month, according to Social Security data. Something else residents in A Coruña receive: Its nearly 193,000 retirees earn about 1,301 euros per month. Lugo follows, with an average pension of 1,114 euros. Ourense, for its part, is the province with the lowest amount in Galicia: 1,034 euros. This separates the people of Oures by more than 700 euros from the Basques.
