The CEO of Banco Santander, Hector Grisihas assured within the framework of the ’31st ABC-Deloitte Financial Sector Meeting’ that we are experiencing great uncertainty at a geopolitical level, and that changes in the US should make Europe react.
The Santander manager, to put the company’s position in the world in context, recalled that they have 11 large banks in the countries where they operate, and they have to adapt.
The main change comes from the US, which will have different scenarios than what, for example, happens in Latin America, and finally there is Europe, which remains waiting. Therefore, at a business level, Grisi has indicated that they are analyzing the situations to take measures in each country.
However, the most resounding message from the CEO of Santander has been towards Europe, where he assumes that it will be necessary to react. He has pointed out that before he was a leader on many many issuesand that now the appropriate situations must be created for Europe to be competitive, and that the answer is not to go to America.
Furthermore, he has assured that talent exists, but that the right conditions must be met. For all these reasons, he explained that the bank is working to simplify the product structure, and they are also automating processes so that people have better access.
Regarding business opportunities, Grisi has mentioned the large volume of remittances sent from Mexico to the United States, which could be a boost for Bizum-style digital transactions.
