The high tension that has been experienced in the investigation commission of the Madrid Assembly, regarding the alleged favorable treatment of the Complutense University to the wife of the President of the Government, during the appearance of Begoña Gómez has given way to calm with the presence of the rector, Joaquín Goyache. As he stressed, the Chair of Competitive Social Transformation was created in an “absolutely legal and regular” manner and the appointment of Begoña Gómez to direct it was carried out without any type of “pressure.”
During his speech, Goyache explained that it was Begoña Gómez who proposed the creation of this extraordinary chair. The rector has acknowledged that he met with the wife of the President of the Government in a meeting at the La Moncloa facilities, although he has not been able to specify in which building. Of course, he has made it clear that he did not meet Pedro Sánchez at any time, and therefore did not greet him.
The rector of the Complutense, who is being investigated by Judge Peinado within the framework of the ‘Begoña case’, has appeared in the investigation commission at the request of the PP. Unlike the wife of the President of the Government, Goyache did want to answer the questions asked by the parliamentary groups of the Assembly.
Goyache has denied that there were irregularities in the creation of the extraordinary professorship, and that any order was given as to who should direct it. Thus, he stressed that according to the internal investigation that has been carried out by the university, it concludes that “in principle the creation was absolutely legal and regular.” Although he has insisted that the chair “has not been exceptional in any case” due to the fact that it was directed by Begoña Gómez’s wife, he has recognized that “there is no profile similar” to his, without a degree in the 54 extraordinary chairs from the university.
“We have created a chair, an extraordinary chair has been created by an exceptional method, but it has been created well,” said the rector of the Complutense.
The appointment of Gómez as head of the chair was made at the proposal of the mixed monitoring commission, which justified his suitability based on his experience. “I consider that the proposal was appropriate and I did not have to evaluate its relevance or not,” he highlighted, although he confessed that he did not know that she was not a graduate.
In relation to the ‘software’ that Gómez could have patented within the framework of the Complutense master’s degree, the rector explained that he was not aware of it or of any irregularity linked to it.
