SUVs are in fashion, but there is life beyond them. In fact, there are very interesting things in other areas of the market. A crossoverby definition, is the mixture of concepts and the Audi A3 allstreet get into that group. It is a compact with more ground clearance which is now launching a plug-in hybrid version with so much electric autonomy that it can receive the same assistance as a pure electric car.
The public demands cars with greater height, more comfortable to get in and out of. Many clients also value the (false) feeling of having greater security simply by going higher. That’s where a good part of the success of SUVs lies. Halfway between a compact car and an SUV we find the A3 allstreet, which is nothing more than a slightly taller A3.
Compact on the outside, but with a big battery on the inside
The new plug-in hybrid version is called Audi A3 allstreet 40 TFSIe and has 204 horses of power, with a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The hybrid system is made up of a 1.5-liter turbocharged TFSI evo2 engine with 150 HP and 250 Nm of torque. This is combined with an electric motor with 116 HP (85 kW) and 330 Nm of torque. It reaches a top speed of 225 km/h (it can travel in purely electric mode at a speed of up to 140 km/h) and does 0-100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. But the most interesting thing is not the power, but the battery and its electrical autonomy.
The battery has a useful capacity of 19.7 kWh (25.7 kWh gross) and allows approval of a electric range of 139 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. With this electric autonomy, you will be able to move around on a day-to-day basis without resorting to fuel except for long trips. For those cases, the 40-liter fuel tank offers another 800 kilometers of range before having to stop to refuel (according to WLTP consumption with a discharged battery).
The A3 allstreet TFSIe can be charged in direct current at 50 kW of power, which means that the battery can be recharged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. In alternating current it supports up to 11 kW (three-phase AC) and with the service Audi chargingthe brand offers access to some 630,000 charging points in 29 European countries.
As usual, the hybrid system has several modes of operation. The driver can choose an automatic hybrid mode, which manages energy in the best possible way; force electric mode, or use only the gasoline engine to reserve the battery charge for another time. Using the paddles behind the steering wheel you can regulate the level of recovery during braking.
Same ground clearance as an SUV
Regarding its dimensions and dimensions, the A3 allstreet 2024 has 150 mm ground clearancethe same as an Audi Q2 and similar to a Kia Niro or a Volkswagen T-Roc (160 mm), for example. They are 30 mm more than an A3 Sportback thanks to a 15 mm higher suspension, larger tires and a 15 mm higher body. Measure 4,353 mm long 1,816 mm wide and 1,457 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,630 mm.
The suspension of the A3 allstreet TFSIe has been modified to compensate for the weight of the lithium-ion battery, located under the floor in the rear seat area. This model weighs 1,685 kilos, distributed 55% on the front axle and 45% on the rear axle. Optionally it can be ordered with a steering with variable ratio depending on the steering angle.
Available since November with the help of an electric
The standard equipment is superior to that of the A3 allstreet, including elements such as auxiliary air conditioning, which allows the cabin to be cooled in summer before a trip or preheated in winter, or Audi drive select, with which various vehicle parameters can be adjusted. .
He price of the A3 allstreet 40 TFSIe, which is available for order from mid-November, part from 49,720 euros. However, it can remain below 40,000 euros if all possible aid is applied.
Being a plug-in hybrid with more than 90 kilometers of autonomy in electric mode, it has the same aids as a pure electric car. That is to say, 4,500 euros minimum from the Moves III Plan and up to 7,000 euros if an old car is scrapped, in addition to the deduction of 3,000 euros in Personal Income Tax (IRPF).
