Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential elections continues to have all kinds of consequences. One of them indirectly affects one of his main followers, the magnate Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and X.
The reason is that the Bluesky social network, which was born as a counterweight to the changes experienced by X (formerly Twitter) since its purchase by Musk, has gained 700,000 followers in just one weeka large increase in users that brings the total number to 14.5 million.
In statements to The VergeBluesky’s director of operations, Rose Wang, has assured that most of these new users come from the US.
The increase in users has accelerated this week as a result of Trump’s victorysince many users of linked to the extreme right.
In fact, there are already social media experts who consider Bluesky as a refuge for those users who, for ideological or ethical reasons, do not want to continue on X, considering it a conservative bastion and a speaker of dangerous ideas.
Guardian has taken up the words of Axel Bruns, a social media researcher, who recognizes that X has lost systems for detecting and eliminating accounts with toxic behavior.
“Bluesky has become a haven for people who want to have the kind of social media experience that Twitter used to offerbut without all the far-right activism, misinformation, hate speech, bots and everything else,” says the expert.
Raises closely related to hits to X
As reported Europa Press, The platform already reported in September that it reached a total of 10 million registered users in its application, adding “one million new users”, many of them registered after the blockade of X in Brazil.
Following this line, Bluesky recently also shared in a post that it added half a million new users in one day, after X’s announcement about the implementation of new changes to its platform, such as the new blocking system, which allows blocked accounts continue viewing posts as long as they have been shared publicly.
