Mario Armero, one of the key figures in the Spanish automotive industry, died today in Madrid, as a result of a tumor detected before the summer. For almost a decade, he was at the head of the national association of automobile manufacturers, Anfac, coinciding with the move of the big brands towards electrification.
The Law graduate from the Complutense University of Madrid held several positions of maximum responsibility, both in production companies, such as General Electric, but he was always linked to financial corporations, which is where he carried out his career after his time in the automotive industry.
The last of them was in the French alternative fund Tikehau Capital, where he was the president for the Portuguese and Spanish markets and managed assets worth more than 40,000 million euros.
In addition, Armero also participated in several boards of directors, such as those of the Institute of Automotive Studies, INDO, Bankinter Consumer Finance and was previously on that of Gas Natural Fenosa, representing the American fund Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP).
The manager became executive vice president of Anfac in January 2020, a position that was created with his arrival in 2011 so that the organization would have a president from a manufacturer and another responsible for daily operations.
In 2020, Begoña Cristeto, former Secretary General of Industry and SMEs during the Government of Mariano Rajoy, was proposed, but the incompatibilities law prevented the candidate from doing so, who went on to handle issues related to the automotive industry at KPMG.
