The 13th edition of the International Circus and Living Arts Festival ‘On the Tightrope’ will take place from November 15 to 25 and will display 12 shows designed by fifteen companies from different autonomous communities, such as Catalonia, Galicia, Aragón, Valencian Community, Basque Country, Andalusia and Cantabria; and from other countries such as Argentina, France, Italy, Belgium and Ireland.
This initiative, designed and organized by Café de las Artes Teatro and recognized in the call for grants from the Santander Creativa Foundation (FSC), will offer 19 functions of those dozen proposals in stages such as Café las Artes, Centro Botín, Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), El Palacio de Festivales, the Central Library of Cantabria and the civic centers of Tabacalera, Juan de Santander and Cazoña. Outside the capital, the festival will reach other places such as the Patio de Cristal of Castro Urdiales, the Sarón Market and the La Penilla sports court.
Beyond the proposals for the general public, there have been programmed two functions aimed at students from various educational centers of the region and two workshops for intergenerational audiences. An artistic residency of one’s own creation will also be developed at Café de las Artes.
INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
‘On the tightrope’ was born in 2012 as a small circus cycle but “thanks to the effort, work and the sum of collaborations it has become, without a doubt, a recognized international festival that, in addition to offering circus shows in halls and unconventional spaces in the region, proposes artist residencies, mediation actions with the community, workshops, meetings and spaces for reflection together with professionals in the sector,” highlighted the artistic director of the proposal, Cristian Londoño.
Now, it faces its 13th edition with objectives such as “open it more to the city, make it more visible and more accessible”. In addition, “living arts” have been incorporated into the festival, which encompasses those proposals where the spectator has an active role, participates and interacts with the artists.
PROGRAMMING
“We have designed a program so that spectators feel the idea of belonging, to continue contributing to feeding the taste for the performing arts and for the public to be active and committed,” said Londoño, adding that this initiative “decentralizes the cultural offer bringing scenic proposals to rural areas through its revitalization program Circonexiones”.
