The president of the Valencian Generalitat, Carlos Mazónis already working on the design of changes in your government to direct all the capacities and structure of the Executive “to the reconstruction work” after the catastrophic floods caused by DANA on October 29 in the province and metropolitan area of Valencia. It will be starting this Thursday, with his appearance in Les Cortswhen the head of the Consell starts “talking about politics” and management, in which he admits that there have been errors. “I am not worried or occupied for a single minute with what my personal political position is, because I would also be demonstrating very little responsibility,” he defended, while at the same time He has said he feels supported by his partythe PP.
After visiting the reconstruction works of the CV-33 in Torrent, the head of the regional Executive stated that “the entire Valencian Government” is “absolutely focused on recovery” and that this is the objective these days. For this reason, he has summoned the plenary session on Thursday: “When that appearance arrives, We will start talking about the political partwhich in my opinion is not the priority of citizens at this moment,” he stated. In any case, he stated that he is not “in the key of personal defense,” although he said that these days he has seen hoaxes and “shocking insinuations”.
Asked if he has a “clear conscience” about the actions of the Generalitat regarding the moment in which the notices were sent to the populationhas said that all administrations will review their actions and added: “We must assume that there may have been errorsWithout a doubt, it must be done with all humility.”
Among these failures, he has pointed out one: “Not having paid more attention to the Poyo rambla; not having had better information, although it is not a strict or exclusive competence, as everyone knows of the Generalitat Valenciana, and having been so pending the Forata damwhich fortunately did not break.” Along these lines, he expressed that “it is not a problem of conscience when everyone did what they could based on the information they received.”
Mazón has indicated that the crisis management center, Cecopi, was “validly constituted”; has stressed that the president of the Generalitat “is not a member” of this body and that the members who were there were fully operational and received the information “they do not need a political presence” to make decisions.
Councilors in question
Two of the possible candidates to leave the Valencian Government are the Ministers of Justice and the Interior, Salome Pradasand that of Industry and Tourism, Nuria Montes. The first, as directly responsible for managing Emergencies and, more specifically, for sending alerts to citizens’ cell phones, which arrived at 8:11 p.m., when the floods had already occurred. The second, for his statements in which he prohibited the relatives of the victims from approaching Feria Valencia to ask about their missing persons, for which he had to apologize.
Furthermore, the Consell has altered its usual mode of operation. One of the most striking changes, although unofficial, has been the assumption of the spokesperson by the vice president Susana Camarerowho already serves as such with a profile with more political and management weight, to the detriment of the Minister of Finance and spokesperson for the Consell, Ruth Merino. The latter, who was signed by Mazón in the electoral campaign after leaving the Ciudadanos spokesperson in Les Corts, has ceased to be the visible face and voice of the Executive since the catastrophe occurred in Valencia.
Clashes with the central government
Although the Generalitat and the central government work together under the umbrella of Cecopi and the five mixed groups in which councilors and ministers participate, friction between both administrations continues to occur. If this Sunday Vice President Camarero reproached the Executive of Pedro Sanchez that his economic aid is “insufficient” and urged him “not to spare a single euro”, this Monday it was Carlos Mazón himself who assured that He has been asking for unblocking trucks for days, but “they don’t arrive”. The delegate of the central government, Pilar Bernabé, has come forward to deny it: “We will act in one hour,” she said.
In addition, the Consell has focused on the actions of Minister Teresa Ribera for her responsibility for the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) and her subsequent role in the management of the emergency.
