The Salamanca route ideal for autumn
In the publication, Calleja talks about what is known as the rroutes of the ‘Way of Wonders’ and the ‘Forest of Mirrors’, south of the province of Salamanca. These trails are part, as the presenter explains in the video, of the “famous Art Paths”, located in the heart of the Sierra de Francia.
«Take advantage of what is a good plan for a fall weekend or also for any time of the year,” says Calleja, who insists that autumn is the best season to take this route: “At this time the leaves of the trees have the most beautiful colors of the year.”
The ‘Way of Wonders’ is a circular route of about 10 kilometers that connects the towns of Miranda del Castañar and Villanueva del Conde. It is a trail of moderate difficulty, so it is suitable for doing with the family in a calm way. However, it should be taken into account that the total duration, if done completely, is between 3 and 4 hours, depending on the pace.
The ‘Way of Wonders’ route stands out for combining nature and art. And along the route, full of oaks, olive trees, cork oaks and strawberry trees, among other species of trees, it is possible to find sculptures and artistic pieces inspired by local culture that are part of the ‘Art in Nature’ project.
Among the main points of interest on the trail are different viewpoints with views of the valleys and mountains. In addition, the route allows you to visit Miranda del Castañar, a medieval town declared a Historical Site, and Villanueva del Condewhose houses form a unique closed walled enclosure with the aim of protecting the ‘little gardens’ that are located at the back.
Regarding the route ‘Forest of Mirrors’, It connects the towns of San Martín del Castañar, Sequeros and Las Casas del Conde. The trail has a total of 9.3 kilometers and is also of moderate difficulty. In total, doing it can take between 3 and 4 hours.
Like the ‘Way of Wonders’, this Salamanca route also contains elements of contemporary art, such as mirrors installed in the forest, which give the trail its name and create a unique visual game. As you advance along the path, the forest reflects the image of the walker and the surrounding area, creating a very special experience.
Among the works that you can enjoy along this path are The Exchange Tower, the Tree House, Magenta Mayflies, Owlets and Open Doors in the field. In addition, the route passes through some stone bridges and old streams.
