The current mutual members assigned to Muface would see their finances suffer if they wanted to continue with private insurance if the system ends up dissolving. Civil servants should have to pay almost 750 euros more per year for this service, according to a report by Roams Insurtech, the insurance brokerage of the Roams group.
At the moment, This health insurance service costs public workers 478 euros on average. Muface has its own tables, which have a monthly fee depending on the group or subgroup to which you belong, which is directly related to the annual salary. In any case, the highest fee established in Muface is 51.68 euros per month for those with an annual salary of 42,813 euros.
But private health insurance does not vary its premium depending on the insured’s salary, but of risk factors. The main data to evaluate is always age: the older you are, the more expensive the policy will be. In addition, practically all insurers carry out medical examinations before accepting or rejecting the policyholder, in order to detect if they suffer from any illness or other health problem.
That is why State officials, who are especially one of the oldest work groups (the average age of the owners is 57 years) They would be especially affected by the change if they do not want to use public healthcare. According to Roams, a 54-year-old insured person would have an average price for private health insurance of 816.97 euros, practically double what they pay now through withholdings. If, in addition to that, we add a couple and a child of about 15 years of age, that budget would skyrocket to 1,837.71 euros.
These family groups are the ones that would notice the difference the most, since the difference they will notice if Muface disappears will be between 977 and 1,359 euros more on average per year. The increase in prices would also occur in individual policies, but to a lesser extent: the gap would be between 95 and 338 euros more on average per year.
The other factor that makes the price of a health policy vary the most is the type of insurance. According to Pablo Pareles, director of Roams Insurtech, the most common plans are the basic (health care) and the complete (with hospitalization and surgeries). The latter can go with or without co-payment, and is the one that would most resemble the coverage offered by Muface.
Pending the new offer
Today, the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Service, to which Muface depends, met with the unions last Thursday to confirm that they will launch a new “more attractive” proposal to insurers. Some, like Adeslas, slipped that they could accept an offer like the one Muface announced at the beginning of September, with a 24% increase in premiumsbut only one year, to be able to renegotiate the conditions of 2026.
