Stable and sunny weather will predominate this Monday, November 11, on the Peninsula, although it is expected that A DANA could affect the Mediterranean environment or the south of the peninsula starting Wednesday. It will do so, in fact, until Saturday the 16th, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Thus, this Monday stable weather will predominate with abundant low morning cloudiness in the northern half of the peninsula and with the haze retreating from Canary Islands. Balearics and Cataloniafor their part, will be at risk from coastal phenomena with waves of up to three meters due to strong gusts of windwhich can reach 50 or 60 km/h. In the case of the Balearic Islands, they will also be at risk due to rainfall, since up to 30 liters per square meter may accumulate.
It will be from Tuesday when a new DANA will affect the Peninsula from northern Europe, thereby producing a general decrease in temperatures and the possibility of new torrential rains. Although there is still a lot of uncertainty regarding its position, it is expected to continue in the Peninsula until Saturday the 16th and to once again affect to the Mediterranean areaalthough especially to the Balearic archipelago.
Starting on Wednesday the 31st is when the situation is expected to be most critical, with rains spreading across a good part of the Peninsula and in the form of snow in mountain systemsalthough the levels will gradually rise. Aemet expects that rainfall will be much more intense and persistent in the Balearic Islands and on the Mediterranean coast.
Thus, especially it will be north of Cape La Nao at first and, later, in the north of the Valencian Community and on the coasts of Catalonia. There will also be rain on the Andalusian Mediterranean coast, although with less probability. In these areas it could accumulate throughout the entire DANA about 80-100 liters, even locally more than 200 liters. It is not ruled out that strong and persistent rainfall may also occur at points of Murcia, Cantabrian and central peninsula. It is likely that from Saturday the 16th, rainfall will begin to lose intensity in the Mediterranean area.
A colder than normal week
Beyond the precipitation, the records this week will also be colder than normal throughout the eastern half of the Peninsula and in the Balearic Islands. It is true that severe cold is not expected, but even so thermometers may drop by up to three degrees, a situation that will end with the passage of DANA on the weekend, when temperatures are expected to rise again with the arrival of warm air from Africa.
The coldest days will be Wednesday and Thursday, with maximum temperatures that will be below 10 or 15 degrees in much of the Peninsula. Besides, intense frosts are expected in large mountain areas such as the Central System, the Cantabrian Mountains or the Iberian System, areas where values can reach -6 degrees. Likewise, in the Pyrenees and the Sierra Nevada, the minimum values can be even lower.
