He electric car It is one of the great bets of the automobile sector both in Spain and worldwide. The sales share of new plug-in vehicles (10.4%) exceeded that of diesel vehicles (10.3%) for the first time during the first half of 2024.
However, despite efforts to promote the transition towards more sustainable mobility, the electric car faces major economic challenges which invite one to think that combustion cars will not stop being manufactured, just as the European Union wants.
In this sense, Pedro Bastidamanager and mechanic of a Technical Vehicle Inspection (ITV) station, has shared his opinion about the future of electric cars. In a video posted on instagramuser @itvdeltiktok explains the reasons why he believes that this type of vehicle faces significant economic challenges.
The future of the electric car
«Do you think they will stop manufacturing internal fuel engines“, asks Pedro Bastida to his more than 120,000 followers on Instagram. The expert has a clear answer: No. According to the ITV mechanic, the reasons that explain this are “regardless of the interests that there may be in the brands or factories.”
And, according to Bastida, there are also economic interests. «Do you knowHow much tax does a liter of gasoline have?? Because it’s beastly. I think it is around 70% or 80%,” explains the expert, who believes that no one is going to give up this collection to promote the transition to electric vehicles.
The ITV mechanic considers that the future will belong to the synthetic fuels, so that they can continue “putting that tax base into it to be able to continue collecting.”
Bastida asks his followers in the video if they agree with him or, on the other hand, think that the future will be electric or hybrid cars: «It is a fairly important change that can touch everyone’s pocket in the medium-long term, so it is an issue to take into account.
The responses from his followers have not been long in coming. Some agree with the expert: “The electric car is being a failure, I believe that the future is synthetic fuels and hydrogen.” However, many are betting on taxes for electricity: “They will continue to exist but with a different name”“They will put your taxes in the light.”
