The virtual president of the United States, donald trumpalso took over the “hinge state” of Arizona and the 11 delegates who were in dispute in said territory, according to projections this Saturday by the CNN network and the agency Associated Press.
The victory in Arizona adds to that of the rest of the pendulum states in these elections: Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and Nevada, where Trump also won, who has finally added 312 electoral votes facing the 226 of the democratic candidatethe vice president Kamala Harris.
Trump, who has officially proclaimed himself as victor of the US presidential elections on Wednesday, thus reversing the result obtained in Arizona in 2020, when the still president Joe Biden won by 10,457 votes in the tightest electoral battle for states that year.
With Maricopa County as the epicenter, Trump then took charge of spreading conspiracy theories baseless claims about election rigging, which have been planned for the past four years in the minds of many Republicans and which have come to the fore constantly during the recent Campaign.
In this state located in the known as ““Sun Belt”which seemed key to the future of the elections before the Republican magnate won with such solvency, Trump did prevail in 2016 over Hillary Clinton for four points.
Arizona had historically been a state of republican trend -Biden’s victory was the second for a Democratic candidate in the last 28 years-, but the rapid growth of the Latino population and divisions within the Republicans in that state complicated the task of recovering it.
In fact, since Trump’s last victory there (2016), the Democratic Party had managed to elect the governor of the State, Katie Hobbs; to two senators and other high-level state officials.
Both Harris and Trump, who had a slight advantage in the polls for Arizona but within the margin of error, they visited the border between this state and neighboring Mexico during the campaign to captivate voters.
