For more than a decade Tesla has controlled the global electricity market with great power. Those from Austin have been world leaders since the electric car began to become popular more than 10 years ago. However, that hegemony may be coming to an end. China has put its foot on the accelerator and its brands are only gaining ground, BYD in particular. Those from Shenzhen are making all kinds of efforts to snatch such a prestigious position from the Americans, although they have not said their last word. Tesla now has a curious incentive out of its sleeve.
When buying a new car, brands promote different programs and plans to attract buyers. Tesla has been doing it from the beginning with its famous referral programwhich by the way has recovered in some countries, as well as with unlimited fast charges during the first years. Today Tesla’s big bet is based on a more than attractive sales price and in a brand image so powerful that few, if any, can hide it. In Spain they have launched other very interesting commercial programs such as Tesla Boost. It is possible to buy a Tesla Model 3 for 25,000 euros and a Model Y for less than 30,000.
An exclusive commercial campaign for China
With these rates it is almost impossible for any other European rival to be able to overshadow them, but when we talk about global figures, BYD does have a lot to say about it. The Chinese almost overtook the Americans at the end of last year and since the course began They have been placed slightly behind. The last quarter will define everything. China holds the key to success. Whoever manages to succeed in China, the largest electricity market in the world, will be victorious on December 31. The figures detail a slight advantage for the Americans.
Keep in mind that China sells more cars than Europe and the United States combined, so Tesla has come up with an ingenious commercial attraction with which it hopes to take advantage. Just like local sources reportthe dealers of Tesla in the country is offering a visit to the Shanghai Gigafactory for all customers to buy one of the cars before next December 3rd. The condition is not only to order it but that it must be delivered by that date. Almost a month of campaign in which only a lucky few will have the opportunity to see how Teslas are manufactured in China. A visit that should really be worth it.
The trade policy only applies in China and there are only 10 winners nationally. Tesla is offering a plane ticket and a hotel night with all expenses paid for the lucky winner and a companion. The move comes at a time when Tesla China’s wholesale sales (including exports) fell significantly in October, despite several local governments introducing incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles. The Shanghai Gigafactory, Tesla’s most productive and largest in the world, assembles the Model 3 and Tesla Model Y for local consumption and also for export, especially to Europe. In almost six years of life it has produced more than 3 million cars.
