A massive protest takes over Valencia due to the “negligence” of DANA: “Mazón resigns”

Thousands of people in Valencia and other cities in the country are demanding the resignation of the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, for his management of the DANA that devastated the Valencian regions on October 29. From 5 p.m. this Saturday, columns with hundreds of protesters arrive in the Valencian capital from the municipalities of l’Horta Sud, the region most affected by the storm that has left more than 200 fatalities. The protesters have traveled kilometers on foot and arrive covered in mud after collaborating in the cleaning tasks in the mornings, dressed with banners. Some carry cleaning utensils to show their indignation. The demonstration formally begins at 6 p.m. but the city center is already packed.

Dozens of entities have called for a silent demonstration in Valencia for this Saturday, November 9, at 6 p.m., almost two weeks after the floods that have caused more than two hundred deaths. Another fifty have joined a manifesto in which they call to “organize rage” peacefully against the Valencian Executive, from whom they demand responsibilities for the “negligent management” of the tragedy. The conveners, neighborhood associations, unions and organizations in defense of the territory consider that the Consell led by Carlos Mazón has acted as a “criminal”: “It is unsustainable for this autonomous Government to last another day,” they assert. In the call and the messages disseminated, the organization rejects any violent expression and demands that those demanding not “engage in provocations” from the extreme right, which is very active in the affected municipalities.

The protest is replicated in other parts of the State such as in Madrid, where a solidarity rally begins at 6 p.m., or in Barcelona, where on Thursday dozens of people threw mud at the local PP headquarters. Entire families come to Valencia, some from flooded municipalities, others in solidarity with those affected and the victims.
