Attack on a Franciscan monastery near Valencia. This morning a man entered the monastery of the Holy Spirit of the Mount, in Gilet, and began beating the friars. According to witnesses, the man claimed to act “in the name of God.” One of the Franciscans has died, while three others are admitted to hospitals in the region. Shortly after hearing the news, the provincial of the Franciscans of the Immaculate Conception, Brother Joaquín Zurera Ribó, issued a statement in which he pointed out how, “with deep surprise and pain we received the news this morning that a disturbed person has entered in the convent of Santo Espíritu del Monte (Gilet, Valencia) and has been attacking the brothers who were in his room, with the intention – according to what they heard – of killing the friars.”
