Rock and metal giants like Foo Fighters or Metallica have already done it, and it was time to do it here: bring together hundreds of musicians with their idols to live together an unusual sound and human experience, in a big way, reclaiming music as an act collective and above all, instrumental and non-digital. That is what Crazy Rock Band proposes, “the largest rock group in Spain”, which has already given concerts in Quintanar de la Orden and Alcázar de San Juan (with an instrument fair and a children’s leisure area included) that won two Guinness Record (for the largest number of drummers playing a crescendo and the loudest snare hit) and in which legends such as Fortu (Obús), M-Clan, Iñaki Uoho (Platero y Tú, Extremadura), El Drogas (ex Barricada), Kutxi Romero (Marea), Yosi (Los Suaves), Carlos Escobedo (Sôber) and Miguel Costas (ex Siniestro Total). The last five repeat in the third edition that takes place this Saturday at La Coverta in Leganés (10pm, tickets from 15 euros), and has also been joined by Rulo, leader of La Contrabanda (and former La Fuga), who precisely this Friday returns to the recording scene by releasing an album recorded in live one of the best festivals in Madrid, ‘Una noche en el Botánico’. “I really wanted to sing with the Crazy Rock Band, in fact I couldn’t the previous times because it coincided with my tours, but I blocked this date so as not to miss it,” says the Cantabrian artist, who plans to fully enjoy “a meeting with old friends in which we will celebrate life and rock.” The proposal came from Carlos Escobedo, promoter of the project, “and it seemed so original and wonderful that I did not hesitate to take up the gauntlet,” says Rulo, whose first concert, At ten years old, it was precisely from one of his co-stars, Yosi, «when Los Suaves played at the Reinosa Sports Pavilion, on December 30, when it was as cold as hell. The venue was not full, but Yosi gave a great concert that convinced me that I wanted to dedicate myself to the same thing as him when I grew up. Having become friends with him is one of the gifts that music has given me. Rulo thinks the event is “a highlight” because he is going to “learn something”, jokes the singer and guitarist. «Also, in this era when there are so many soloists, it’s cool to do something with such a big, gigantic band. The best thing that can happen to you when you are twenty is to be in a group. But now you see young kids starting out as soloists, and it’s like another world. I think that in Spain we continue to have a debt with rock at the media level, and I say this with all the affection in the world. You go to Argentina and there urban music is at its peak, but not to the detriment of rock! There rock is still a very strong movement, with a lot of daily presence, but not here. It’s a shame, because on general radio they don’t play any rock, because they don’t even play guitars, almost nothing that is made with instruments, and if you go to a specialized one, they play the same classics all day long.”Rulo, during his concert recorded on the live album ‘Una noche en el Botánico abcVarious moments from the event ‘Crazy Rock Band’ abcAlthough it seems that digital music is destroying everything, Rulo assures that there is a buzz with the return of instruments to the limelight. «It is talked about among the people of the world. Kids are picking up basses, guitars and drumsticks again, and there’s an explanation for that. We have been listening to music that is made with the same tool, the computer, for years and in the end everything ends up sounding practically the same. In addition, young people are once again realizing the pleasure that comes when a guitar vibrates in your hands. It’s therapeutic! It is good for psychological and emotional well-being, I found it especially during the pandemic. When you make music by pasting tracks into a computer program with your keyboard mouse, it doesn’t feel anything special. Because the end is not what gives you pleasure. It’s the way.”MORE INFORMATION ‘Piedra contra tijera’, the survival story of Spanish rock in the 30 years of decline of the genreIn addition to his new live album, recorded at Las Noches del Botánico last year, Rulo is going to publish the November 28 his first fiction novel, ‘A Matter of Luck’. “It took me three years to finish it because I have a lot of respect for the word ‘novel’,” says the musician and writer, whose book will tell us the story of someone who is about to become a multimillionaire, “but far from giving joy, he begins to rethink many things in his life.
